Kids and health

The WIC program has made a significant and positive impact on the health and well-being of millions of women, infants and children.

More than a dozen General Mills cereals meet federal requirements for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), which has served some of the most nutritionally at-risk or needy people in the United States since 1974.

General Mills is committed to making complimentary nutrition education materials available for distribution in WIC clinics.

The Presidential Active Lifestyle Award is part of the President's Challenge, which encourages kids to get moving.

In one year, for example, nearly 25,000 children in the Minneapolis Public School District alone took the challenge through the sponsorship of the General Mills Foundation.

Young people earn the PALA by committing to an hour of physical activity five days a week, and then maintaining a physical activity log for six weeks.

Champions for Healthy Kids
The Champions for Healthy Kids youth nutrition and fitness program awards $500,000 annually in grants to community-based programs.

These funds target grassroots efforts that develop creative ways – such as dance, karate memberships and cooking classes – to help youths adopt a physically active lifestyle that includes a balanced diet.
